A Soul-Searching Saturday Special

Well, it's not Friday. 🙃

I've been slowly getting back into the swing of things after our summer road trip vacation. It's always a really great time to get out and away, have lengthy conversations, and share the changing landscape with each other during those long driving days.

Last week, I promised I'd let myself settle back in and be aimless if need be. I'd work on what I wanted to work on, and I'd spend six hours playing Guild Wars 2 when appropriate. Over last weekend, I picked up an earth-toned, self-striping skein of handspun yarn, and wound a 3-yard warp until it ran out.

This week, I found my weaving spirit again. I managed to finish Big Yellow early in the week, and I also finished the scarf on Thursday. They both still need fringe twisting and wet finishing, but the weaving bit is done.

The rigid heddle loom has been packed away for now, and I'm toying with the idea of swapping it out for a small, folding loom—a 4-shaft Wolf Pup or maybe even a 2-shaft Saori loom. As far as floor looms go, they're the most portable of the portable; X-frame looms in either metal or wood that fold up similarly to a classic lawn chair.

Today I'll get the rigid heddle loom out again and take photos and inventory, so it'll ready to list but can stay packed up.

And I'll also get back to restoring this cute little antique flax wheel I bought while we were on our road trip. It needs a good cleaning, especially some of the detail bits, but it's in good shape, and it spins! (Now that it's out of the humid Midwest, it also doesn't squeak; what a bonus!)

On the content creation side of the equation, I think newsletters and Instagram posts will be the mainstay for the foreseeable future. I've started going to a Saturday morning knit group, and they're so incredibly my people I can't even explain it. That kind of in-person group has been missing from my life for quite some time, and I'm not going to let it go now, and that means Saturdays can't be for streaming.

So be it. I'll figure it out. In the meantime, I'll continue doing my soul-searching, and you know you can find me right here.

I'm going to go back and add photos to this post now, and then get on with the wheel cleaning. As always, feel free to reply to this email to let me know what's going on in your creative life, or find our little slice of the world over on Discord.

Have a great weekend/upcoming week, keep making things, and take care!

🌻 Liz

Good morning, folks! Today Ive decided to enjoy some beautiful autumn weather and write to you from my patio, so this might be a more-words-less-photos kind of letter. Up until just a couple weeks ago, it was still regularly in the 90s here, so highs in the 60s and 70s are very welcome! On Wednesday I took some time to refill the bird feeders I've left languishing for a couple months (sorry birbs), and now there are sparrows every time I look outside. My resident Anna's Hummingbird is also...

Hello, friends! While I stumble my way toward making this a weekly letter, I'm here with some much-needed updates and lots of photos! But first, how are you? How was your September? Have you built or changed any crafting or life habits? What goals are you working toward? Have you satisfied one of your former goals? Has there been a shift in your focus with the season change? Have you embraced the pumpkin spice? Eggnog season is barrelling toward us, you know. I've largely been spinning,...

Hello, friends! I feel like I haven't had much to tell you over the past few weeks, but I felt inspired to write again today. I've been listening to some great podcasts and good books recently, and surprising myself with new ideas that will require a few brainstorm sessions. It's hard to talk about having ideas, because I'm one of those people who can't talk about an idea itself or it will go away. Before I go public, or really even talk to close friends, about A Thing, I have to take action...
