Good morning!
It's pouring down rain in Las Vegas this morning, and I can no longer see the mountains from my studio window. There's no rain nicer than desert rain, and I'll be thrilled to see how much greener and full of life everything is tomorrow.
This Sunday, I'm presenting a color handling tutorial this weekend in lieu of my normal Saturday stream. It will be at 9am Pacific on Twitch.
I will be walking you through how to transform a hand-dyed braid of spinning fiber into a rich gradient yarn, as well as how to split a braid into strips for fractal spinning, which creates a beautiful barberpole effect throughout the finished yarn. I hope it's informative for everyone!
My own projects have been spinning-centric this week as well, as I finish up ongoing spins to clear my bobbins for the upcoming Tour de Fleece. The fractal spin is awaiting skeining and soaking, and the white alpaca is currently being plied.
I started and frogged (again) the Golden Orchids shawl I was making with some beautiful orange tweed mulberry silk/merino yarn. I don't know if it's me or the pattern, but we're not off to a great start together, so I might choose a different pattern and come back to this one at a later date.
The crochet top needs its ends woven in, and after blocking it'll be finished! It's definitely a crop, but should lengthen with blocking, and then lacy bits should open up. No photos as it's currently hiding under my tenor guitar. 😂
This week I've also been scheming off and on about floor loom warping, and how I wish there was a way to take the simplicity of direct warping (rigid heddle loom style) and apply parts of that to the floor loom. It's an unpopular idea, but I might have to stew on it for a little while longer before I'm satisfied with letting it go. Possibly more to follow.
Please, as always, feel free to reply to this email and let me know what you've got going on in your own textile arts world! I love getting to know new (and old) folks, and I do realize that Discord isn't for everyone; some folks like a true one-on-one, like we're at a cafe, knitting together over coffee.
With that, I'm off to a short work day, and a long weekend. I hope to see you on Sunday, and I truly hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Take care,
🌺 Liz

Good morning, folks! Today Ive decided to enjoy some beautiful autumn weather and write to you from my patio, so this might be a more-words-less-photos kind of letter. Up until just a couple weeks ago, it was still regularly in the 90s here, so highs in the 60s and 70s are very welcome! On Wednesday I took some time to refill the bird feeders I've left languishing for a couple months (sorry birbs), and now there are sparrows every time I look outside. My resident Anna's Hummingbird is also...
Hello, friends! While I stumble my way toward making this a weekly letter, I'm here with some much-needed updates and lots of photos! But first, how are you? How was your September? Have you built or changed any crafting or life habits? What goals are you working toward? Have you satisfied one of your former goals? Has there been a shift in your focus with the season change? Have you embraced the pumpkin spice? Eggnog season is barrelling toward us, you know. I've largely been spinning,...
Hello, friends! I feel like I haven't had much to tell you over the past few weeks, but I felt inspired to write again today. I've been listening to some great podcasts and good books recently, and surprising myself with new ideas that will require a few brainstorm sessions. It's hard to talk about having ideas, because I'm one of those people who can't talk about an idea itself or it will go away. Before I go public, or really even talk to close friends, about A Thing, I have to take action...
